Join us for Mandarin Adventures this Summer

Looking for a fun way for your tween or teen to learn a new language?


Mandarin Adventures at St. Clement's School

Panda Mandarin is excited to provide a unique Summer learning opportunity for students to dive into Mandarin with an enriching program for beginners to the language. Each day will involve a practical language lesson, conversational practice, and a cultural lesson. The last day of the week will include a fun & special field trip to downtown Chinatown to learn more about the historical & cultural significance of the community in Toronto!



Schedule

Students can join Week 1 and/or Week 2, or Week 3 and/or Week 4 and get an enriching experience. 


July

Week 1 - July 2-5 - $280

Week 2 - July 8-12 - $300

Week 1 & Week 2 - $493 (15% off)


August

Week 3 - August 6-9 - $280

Week 4 - August 12-16 - $300

Week 3 & Week 4 - $493 (15% off)


Age

The program is designed for those Grade 6 and older (entering Grade 6 in September 2024). The class is an all-gender program.


A minimum of 10 students is required to run the class.


Examples of daily topics

  • Language components can include - intro to Mandarin tones vs. Latin-based languages, basic phrases, Mandarin grammar, pinyin (phonetics system)

  • Conversational practice - practical scenarios - with family & friends, at a restaurant, sightseeing, etc.

  • Cultural connections - topics can include: basic Chinese history, geography, food, art & culture, Chinese community in Toronto

Why learn Mandarin? 

  • Mandarin is the most widely spoken language in the world and the most spoken language in Canada after English & French.




  • Chances are you know someone who can speak Mandarin or wanted to understand Chinese culture better!

  • There are also cognitive benefits of learning Mandarin that can help benefit & support the learning of other subjects such as music & mathematics!



  • Lastly, with China playing a significant part of the global economy, being able to understand and connect in Mandarin can help bridge gaps and foster new relationships.
